St. Vincent de Paul SocietyAs Christians and members of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, we are called to befriend and serve the poor, visiting them in their homes. We meet our clients in what is usually a time of crisis for them. This generally manifests itself as a request for food or sometimes help in paying bills to avoid eviction or having gas, power cut off. Our role is to reach out to meet those who call on us where they are. Many times as we get to know the individuals and families we serve, we begin to see the many underlying problems that lead to that crisis call. Christmas Hampers 2009 St. Vincent de Paul Society also leads an annual Christmas Hamper program for the parish. This is a large undertaking and is only possible with the involvement of many parishioners and volunteers. Please consider assisting with the many activities of the program. Preparation and wrapping of the children’s Christmas gifts will be taking place beginning Friday, December 4th at various times. A complete list of volunteer times is listed in the attachment below. If you have signed up and are unable to make your commitment, please contact Gail Lee at gfmlee@shaw.ca , or call the Parish Office at 403.249.0423 x 115. There are still some volunteer opportunities to serve on Hamper Day - December 16th, and in the days leading up to it. Sign up will continue this weekend. If you want to help or if you have any questions about Hamper Day, please contact Colleen at jcfitzpat@shaw.ca. | |
