Baptism Preparation Ministry

This ministry designed for parents who wish to bring their children (infant to 5 years) to the parish community of St. Michael to receive the sacrament of Baptism. During the sessions, parents will embark upon a journey which is enjoyable, interesting, challenging and very rewarding as you take the first step in the faith-life of your child. You will meet, and form a bond with a diverse group of people who have one thing in common; a desire for what is best for their children. You will talk, pray, sing, share, laugh and perhaps even cry together. You will find great support in each other.

The first step is registering for a Baptism Preparation Session, which can be done at the Parish Office during regular office hours. Next, you will be contacted by the Coordinator to arrange a time for a home visit. This is an opportunity to meet someone from the program so that you will recognize at least one face when you come to the sessions. It is also an opportunity to discuss your questions.

Preparation sessions will be held on the following Saturdays from 10 AM to 12 Noon: September 12, 2009, October 10, 2009, December 12, 2009, February 13, 2010, April 10, 2010, and June 12, 2010. All parents are expected to take these sessions, even if this is not their first child, as this is a wonderful opportunity to build God's kingdom. The sessions include a mixture of readings, reflections, discussions and celebrations.

Following the Preparation Sessions, Baptisms are scheduled during the Saturday 5pm, and Sunday 9am/11am/5pm Masses on September 5&6, 2009, October 3&4, 2009, December 5&6, 2009, February 6&7, 2010, April 3&4, 2010, and June 5&6, 2010.

Suggestion: Parents, you may wish to consider attending the preparation sessions before the birth of your baby. It is much easier to come out in the evening when you don't have to be concerned about babysitters!

Baptism Preparation Team

We are always seeking additional team members for this ministry. The main requirement is hospitality, as our goal is to provide as warm a welcome to these parents as possible. Team members also act as facilitators for small groups of parents during our discussion periods, and may be asked to lead a part of a session, but only when they feel comfortable doing so.
